Hi, my name is Janni – let me tell you a little about Grape Juice Media…
The History
I created Grape Juice Media over a decade and a half ago. I started it as a small graphic/web design agency out of my home during a period of unemployment. The name “Grape Juice Media” came about in a playful way. I always used to say “When life gives you lemons, make grape juice, and watch the people scratch their heads wondering how you did it.” The name seemed to fit just right, so I went with it. I had used GJM in a mostly part-time capacity just to earn a little side income. I neglected the business in recent years due to academic pursuits and health problems. Sadly, this business venture had never really amounted to much.
The Present Day
Over the past few years, I became seriously ill and ended up disabled. Medical expenses overwhelmed me. I needed a way to generate income whilst being largely incapacitated – as well as trapped inside my home. Simultaneously, I was also the primary caregiver for my 95 year old father (who passed away in October 2022). I needed something I could do when I had the time (sometimes in the wee hours of the morning) and when I felt up to it.
I decided to reinvent Grape Juice Media and change the business model. Amazon‘s Kindle Direct Publishing program provided me with a platform to publish useful products like journals, log books, and other similar items under my GJM brand. It also gave me something I could do via my laptop from my bed at any hour of the day or night. Designing the books also provided me with a way of “fighting back” against my illness and the claim it had on my life. Plus, I truly enjoy creating – so it gives me something positive to do on the days that I’m physically able to do so!
My designs feature my own original photography pieces, paintings, graphic design creations, etc… Each design is unique in its own way, and I hope to bring a sense of whimsy, nature, and colour to all of my products.
Proceeds from the sales of my products will go directly towards my medical needs/utility bills. I live in the USA where healthcare is not always financially accessible. People with disabilities such as myself may often struggle to make ends meet.
I look forward to creating more and more fun designs that I can share with you all here!
Thank you for visiting, and may you be happy and well, always…
